About Ian James & Doctor Dance
Ian's long broadcasting carrer can be traced back as far as September 11th 1980 when, during his very first underage boozy session in a local pub he agreed to present a guest spot on a local pirate radio station in Overijse (Brussels) - Radio Pluto.
After suffering for 2 days with a terrible hangover and blinding headache, Ian vowed "never to touch booze again". Of course, this wasn't to be for to long.... he soon became partial to half a shandy! Anyway, following the first guest spot, Ian was given a regular Sunday afternoon show by the station boss Roel Gregoir - and remained with the station through various name changes and raids (Radio Titanic, Radio Verona, Radio Relax).
In 1982 he was invited to present a Friday evening show on Radio Lipstick. Another pirate, this one boasted record audiences and reached a large area of South East Brussels, having a 2000 Watt transmitter. During this period Ian was also featured on the National Broadcaster's BRT Worldservice programme "Brussels Calling".
In the Summer of 1983, Ian returned to the UK taking up a position of drive presenter and commercial producer for the newly formed ILR commercial station for North Wales, Chester & North Shropshire - Marcher Sound.
Ian was born in Wrexham, North Wales in 1965 and grew up in a household filled with pop music. Some friends and family claim he "ate" the radiogram.. There is a story behind this...maybe for another time, but this could explain why Ian still has an appetite for great music - Motown, 70's and of course, Disco!
